I went to Volkswagen arena to set up my booth on the 13th, at night. When I first got their I was super nervous and shy, as all of the other brands and companies were staring at me because of my young age. However at the same time, I felt amazed due to realising the magnitude of this event, and that it was finally going to happen. Below are the images representing the setting up stage.
Reflection on the 1st day:
Till around 3pm I did not sell anything which brought down my mood. Even Though I wasn't expecting much, I felt bad that the event was full of people and my booth was empty. However after 3pm many people started coming and checking out my collection. By the end of the day I sold: 1 blazer jacket, 1 turtleneck sweater, 1 hoodie, 2 bodysuits, 2 jean jackets, 1 bandeau. Since this was an event under the company Zubizu, all customers had a 10% discount, and in total I made 2944tl. I got very positive feedback on the design of the bodysuit and also the jean jacket. People loved the combination of the camouflage fabric with the jean jacket. I was also very happy as people from different age groups were buying from the collection. The bandeau and hoodie were sold to girls around my age, however the blazer jacket and bodysuit were sold to women in their 30s.
Reflection on the 2nd day:
The second day was even more successful than the first. I was more comfortable selling and communicating with the customers and other brands around me. I became very close to the brand selling next to me, and the woman their bought something from my collection. Forming relationships with people their boosted my confidence. Also since it was Friday many of my friends were able to come. In total by the end of the day I sold: 3 triangle cut out tops, 3 blazer jackets, 3 sweatshirts, 1 bodysuit, and 1 jean jacket. I was able to earn 3628TL. I received some feedback on the colour choices. I was advised by some customers to include a range of colours for one design. Moreover I was also told to nextime include a large as a size for the blazer jackets.
Reflection on the 3rd day:
During the last day of the event I had a lot of mixed emotions. I was feeling very proud of what I had achieved, I didn't want any of it to end, but I was also extremely exhausted as I was selling for 3 days from 7am till 11pm. On the third day I sold the same amount as the day before. People bought: 2 tops with the cut out triangles, 2 jean jackets, 1 bandeau, 1 blazer, 2 sweatshirts, 2 bodysuits, 1 turtleneck sweater. I made a total amount of 3748TL. I received a lot of positive feedback on the originality of the designs. My best selling piece was the bodysuit. I was very pleased with the results I faced and I wasn't expecting to sell out, or even get close to selling out. I also got orders from people, for the cutout top, blazer jacket and bodysuit. At the end of the third day Canan from Zubizu asked me to join another event they were hosting in Emaar Square Mall on December 23rd and 24th, which I also joined with a restock of all the designs.
Overall experience
This was an amazing experience for me which eliminated all the questions and doubts I had about studying fashion design in university. This experience really changed who I am as a person, by making me much more independent and confident in interacting with others. I stepped out of my comfort zone, and organized this project which ended up being much larger than the project itself. I made many different connections and met different brands which inspired me. At the end of the three days I wrote down all the feedback I got regarding the designs, and adjusted the restock towards the feedback, so I could improve when I sold at the other shopping event I was invited to. Above I wrote the amount of revenue I made, however, once I subtract the cost of fabrics, the rent of the booth, the bags, the tags, the clothing stands, mirror, mannequin, and the manufacturing of the whole collection, my profit decreases greatly. Although, as I continue entering these events, the expenses will decline, since the equipment (stands, mannequin, mirror) and the bags and tags are already made. Linking this experience to my criteria I was very successful because I was able to sell all the pieces. Further images on the shopping event can be seen in the final product page.
The tailoring quality of my collection:
Joining this event meant that I had to offer high quality garments. The construction involved in producing this collection was very crucial for me. Therefore one of my criteria was to test the manufacturing quality of the pieces. I conducted three tests which were: checking the stability of the seams, the structure of the hemlines, as well as the existence of darts. Below is a video demonstrating the three tests.
