The information on this book will be useful for the final product of my project, as well as my journey to in reaching the final stage. It teaches lessons on failure and what drives a brand into defeat. The layout also assisted me to skip to the chapters that are mainly associated with my project. The chapters independently are divided into specific topics, and all chapters include a “lessons learned” section. The book covers the evolution of Bergdorf Goodman during a period of time under the wheel of the author. I was able to understand possible obstacles that I will most probably encounter, and how to successfully pass them. Moreover, it also provided me a preview, of the main components that are mandatory for my brand to be successful. I needed to understand and analyse what has happened to others, in order for my project to be more rewarding.
Origin: This book is written by Ira Neimark, and published by fairchild books.
Purpose: The purpose of this book is to educate the reader about the wide-reaching story of Bergdorf Goodman’s rise to success, and to prove people that it is a long process, with continuously emerging difficulties.
Value: This is valuable source for me due to its reliability, as well as the way it was written. The author of this biography is Ira Neimark. This is a credible source, because the author himself has served as Chairman and CEO of Bergdorf Goodman from 1975 to 1921. The value increases with the relativity of the information provided in the book, the context helps lead my way through this project.
Limitation: A limitation specifically associated with my project is that, the book is about the rise of a department store, and not an individual designer. Although it includes stories of various brands and their success into getting into the department store, it is more based upon the rise of Bergdorf Goodman.
